DESCRIPTION:Hoarding Disorder is a recognised mental health condition\, which if undetected can have a severe impact on a person’s health and wellbeing\, and can affect their family\, wider society and the professionals who work with them. In the Care Act\, Hoarding is classed as a form of self-neglect and it is often assumed that they are one and the same. However\, this session will show that while there are some similarities\, there are some key differences\, and these should be taken into account when working with people who hoard. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\n\n\n\nTo gain a better understanding of the key characteristics of hoarding disorder\, its causes\, demographics\, comorbidities\, and possible consequences.\n\n\n\nTo better understand the key characteristics of Severe Self Neglect\, its causes\, demographics\, comorbidities\, and possible consequences.\n\n\n\nTo discuss similarities and differences between hoarding behaviours and self-neglect\, and reflect on how this understanding may better inform professional practice.

DESCRIPTION:Those working or volunteering with children or adults with care and support needs who may be in a position to identify concerns of exploitation. Including: support workers\, housing staff\, teachers\, college staff\, GP’s\, nurses\, paramedics\, clerical and admin staff\, advocates\, midwives\, staff working in supported accommodation. \n\n\n\nAt the end of the course participants should: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the local\, national and global scale of exploitation.\n\n\n\nKnow what is meant by the term exploitation and the different forms it can take.\n\n\n\nBe aware of who might be at increased risk of exploitation and some of the circumstances that can place people at risk.\n\n\n\nBe aware of the coercive and controlling methods used by exploiters used to recruit and control victims.\n\n\n\nBe able to recognise the signs and indicators of exploitation.\n\n\n\nBe aware of the impact of exploitation on the person’s ability to trust\, communicate and share information.\n\n\n\nBe aware of the impact of immigration status on the person’s ability to trust\, communicate and share information.\n\n\n\nRecognise immediate safety (of the person at risk\, others and yourself) as a key priority around any concern.\n\n\n\nKnow what information to record and ensure relevant details are gathered.\n\n\n\nKnow the importance of avoiding using victim-blaming language.\n\n\n\nKnow how to report a safeguarding concern using either your organisation’s or multi-agency safeguarding procedures.\n\n\n\nKnow how to report intelligence about exploitation to the Police.\n\n\n\nUnderstand information sharing considerations and the situations when you might need to share information without consent.\n\n\n\nUnderstand your own role and the limits of your knowledge and capabilities and know when to seek specialist advice or support.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the basics of the National Referral Mechanism\, what it is and how it is used.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the impact of identifying a victim of exploitation and know how to access support for yourself or others who need emotional support after identification.
