SUMMARY:Sexually Coerced Extortion Online
DESCRIPTION:Since the start of 2023 The Children’s Society have been specifically exploring the trend of sexually coerced extortion online. This type of exploitation is where children are groomed for self-generated indecent images and once the image is received then the perpetrator makes threats as to who they will share that image with if either money or further images are not sent. The mental health impact on victims of this type of exploitation are severe. This session will explore this trend in the Newcastle context\, as well as exploring other online trends and risks and noting how gendered assumptions and stereotypes may play into who is identified as a victim of this type of exploitation.

SUMMARY:ICON - Babies cry \, you can cope
DESCRIPTION:“Babies cry\, you can cope!”   \n\n\n\nICON is an evidence based programme adopted by health and social care organisations in the UK  which aims to raise awareness of infant crying\, including how to cope\, in a bid  to support  parents/carers\, reduce stress and prevent abusive head trauma in babies.  \n\n\n\nResearch shows that some parents and caregivers can lose control when a baby’s crying becomes too much. Some go on to shake a baby with devastating consequences. Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) causes catastrophic brain injuries\, which can lead to death\, or significant long-term health and learning disabilities.   \n\n\n\nThis session aims to look at what ICON is and why it is so important to spread the simple ICON message. It will look at how we currently share ICON information and encourage all practitioners to consider how they can strengthen this advice and support with the parents they work with . \n\n\n\n
