Professionals across Newcastle are invited to attend an upcoming learning session focused on Pressure Ulcers and Safeguarding Adults, taking place on Monday 29 June, 10:00–11:30am at St Joseph’s Home, Westmorland Road, NE4 7QA.

This session will support practitioners to better understand how pressure ulcer care links to safeguarding responsibilities, helping to ensure concerns are identified, assessed and responded to appropriately.

Why this matters

Pressure ulcers can, in some circumstances, be an indicator of neglect or poor care. It is essential that professionals feel confident in:

  • Recognising when a pressure ulcer may require a safeguarding response
  • Applying the National Pressure Ulcer & Safeguarding Protocol
  • Making proportionate, defensible decisions using the safeguarding decision guide

Strengthening this understanding supports consistent, person-centred safeguarding practice and helps ensure people are protected from avoidable harm.

What the session will cover

The session will include:

  • Pressure ulcer care and prevention
  • The National Pressure Ulcer & Safeguarding Protocol
  • How to use the safeguarding decision guide in practice
  • Understanding the interface between clinical care and safeguarding adult procedures

Who should attend

We encourage attendance from:

  • Care providers (care home staff, home care providers, registered managers, clinical leads)
  • Health professionals (district nurses, tissue viability nurses, hospital staff, community teams)
  • Adult social care practitioners (social workers, safeguarding leads)

This session is particularly important for anyone involved in identifying, preventing, or responding to neglect, deterioration, or safeguarding adult concerns linked to skin integrity.
