The following resources are free-to-access. They cover some specific areas of safeguarding practice which complement the core course content offered by the Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board and Newcastle Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Adult Exploitation Awareness

A short video produced by the Safeguarding Adults Unit at Newcastle City Council to raise awareness of adult exploitation and how to respond.

Counter-terrorism (including Prevent)

There are four free e-learning courses offered by the Government related to counter-terrorism. These e-learning courses are certificated.

County Lines

This short film is from the National County Lines Coordination Centre (NCLCC), it discusses the County Lines methodology and how this is impacting children and vulnerable adults, partners, law enforcement and society.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Recognising and preventing FGM e-learning is available for professionals with safeguarding responsibilities from the Home Office. It gives an introduction to FGM and the action you must take to protect girls who may be at risk. You need to register to access the e-learning: https://fgmelearning.vc-enable.co.uk/Register/ (Please select “Tyne and Wear” as location). This e-learning is certificated.

The Home Office have also produced an extensive FGM Resource Pack.

Home Takeover

A cross-partnership project has produced two animations on home takeover (sometimes referred to as home invasion or cuckooing). The animations are a joint effort across the Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board, The Newcastle Safeguarding Children Partnership and the Safe Newcastle Board, as well as input from the University of Northumbria, Newcastle. There are two versions of the animations, one aimed at professionals and one aimed at young people (to be used in schools, year 7 and above).

Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS)

Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE) have produced a short video to encourage the social care sector to consider how the LPS will seek to promote practice which aligns with human rights and the core principles and duties of the Care Act 2014.

Making a good safeguarding adults referral

One hour webinar which covers:

  • Reminder of the criteria for making a safeguarding adults referral
  • Involvement of the adult at risk, consent and information sharing considerations
  • Other referral pathways and escalation of concerns
  • Language
  • What happens once a safeguarding adults referral has been submitted
  • Signposting to guidance and resources that will assist referrers

National Referral Mechanism

This short film is from the National County Lines Coordination Centre (NCLCC) on the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) including the process, when to apply and how decisions are made. The NRM is a framework for identifying and referring potential victims of modern slavery and ensuring they receive the appropriate support.

National Review into the murders of Arthur and Star

Friends Against Scams offer two awareness raising options where anyone can learn about the different types of scams and how to spot and support a victim. With increased knowledge and awareness, people can make scams part of everyday conversation with their family, friends and neighbours, which will enable them to protect themselves and loved ones.
